There's some sentiment that the whole environmental scene has become a place to be seen, to be heard, to be there.
Even in the religious space, it has spilled over into what we term creation care.
The conversation has shifted. From what once was science based, it has been a...
"Everything is permissible"
Why stop an influencer from blaring out opinions? Why stop people from making money? Why limit businesses from producing more reusable cutlery and supermarkets from producing more bags? Why not let everyone fly across the world for an event?
Sometimes, don't we have to stop and question what we are all doing? The crux in creation care is not creation, it's care.
We can't even care enough about each other, why are we now caring about creation? If we cared enough about each other, why do you see suffering alongside you, poverty, physical abuse. Many of us look forward, but never back. We chase progress but not realising many have not progressed.
Why shift our attention to pretend we really care enough about nature? Why talk about global boiling when everyday you're enjoying your hot bath? Fundamentally, do you even really care?
And if you did, maybe you would realise that the whole context of trying to shift climate change and drive sustainability was because people out there cared enough about someone else out there, and not just the world. It's not like people care about their food anyway, particularly in Singapore.
But as reality goes, humans hurt each other more than they sometimes care about each other. Most of us are hypocritical because we didn't care enough. But Jesus cares. He really does.
The crux is not what you care about. The crux is how much you care. That's what love is. And to love one God and not get distracted by the many other things around you. Because if you love Him so much, people will know you care, the forests will know you care.
And even if you fail, you tried. It's ok to make mistakes. We made many mistakes not seeing the truth in God sooner, but we had to take time to get there.
Because, fundamentally we are still human. The world is still made of dust. And even if everything belongs to God, we are nothing without Him. But if we care, at the end, it'll be alright and we don't have to worry.
