What is Water?

What is water than turns into wine. That fills our rivers and seas and which we bathe and wash our sins in?

My friends and I pondered the question:

A friend talked about a chance encounter with another friend, a brilliant mathematical physicists that said that "you know, water is not really water"..... What is water then? "It's an excellent question! Water sits fascinatingly at the boundary between classical and quantum worlds:

Classical aspects of water (well-described without quantum mechanics):

Fluid dynamics and flow patterns

Phase transitions between solid, liquid, and gas at the macroscopic level, hydrostatic pressure and buoyancy

Quantum aspects of water (requiring quantum mechanics):

The hydrogen bonding network that gives water its unique properties, Molecular vibrations and rotations, Proton tunneling in ice and liquid water

Think of it like this: if water were a building, classical physics would describe how the completed structure stands and functions, while quantum mechanics would explain how the individual bricks are made and how they connect to each other. Both descriptions are necessary for a complete understanding.

Some particularly interesting quantum effects in water include quantum tunneling of hydrogen atoms and zero-point energy of hydrogen bonds, which affect properties like water's unusually high boiling point and surface tension."

What it means is that. Water is seen uniquely. And in different worlds, they are seen fascinatingly different, yet it remains water in our particular reality but could be seen very differently from the quantum perspective.

I casually said, "we need to learn about water, and joked that maybe going to church on Sunday would teach me a little bit".

That Sunday.... A text fleshed on the screen:

"This is Water" by David Foster Wallace, who writes about two fish oblivious about the world around. "The whole truth is keeping the truth up front in daily consciousness".

Surely this cannot be coincidence. With my friends, a quantum perspective, even driven somewhat by AI. With church, a classical theory? How profound!

Today Ps Kenny reemphasized that God keeps his promises. And we are cleansed, not by water but by the Blood of Christ. He said from Acts 1:9-11

"Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven?"

We live in a broken world. And we hope and hope. But his point was that we are commanded to witness and to show that divine truth to the world.

Even if I wanted to walk away from Christ, I cannot. Even if I have found so much hurt and selfishness from the church. What can I do but acknowledge that truth, even as I stare into heaven. And when His promise is delivered, I cannot ignore it. I know.

i can deny it as much as I want to. But really, can I?
